Title: Program Director - Respite Services      

The Program Director assures that the mission of Friendship Home is carried out by enriching the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families by providing quality respite care and support services in a safe and caring environment.

Summary:   The Program Director is responsible for all aspects of development and implementation of Friendship Home’s Respite Services Programs including overnight respite and Travel Club.  He/ She assures a safe and caring environment for program participants during activities on and off site.   He/She assures oversight of all aspects of program administration including assuring that records are up to date, staff and volunteers are adequately trained and oriented to the program, policies and procedures are followed and services are delivered consistent with the mission and vision of Friendship Home.  He/She provides support, assistance and instruction to individuals with developmental disabilities in areas that facilitate their growth toward self-sufficiency and independence. He/She provides leadership and program supervision in cooperation with the Leadership Team in order to assure quality service delivery and positive individual and programmatic outcomes in accordance with individual goals and program strategic plans.  He/She works with the Leadership Team to develop relationships within the community that build vocational, educational, social and recreational opportunities for program participants and their families. The Program Director is a primary role model for program participants, parents/guardians, community members, volunteers and staff in presenting a positive and cooperative attitude, and ABILITIES focused model within the program.

 

Essential Job Functions

The Program Director:

  • Is responsible for assuring safe and healthy activities for program participants
  • Develops structure and necessary manuals for overnight respite that meet or exceed licensing and best practice standards including:
    • Medication administration program
    • Guest handbook and rules
    • Staff policy and procedure manual
    • Information packets for families and program participants
    • Licensing and certification documents
  • Assures that program receives and maintains DDS license in excellent standing
  • Develops in cooperation with board and Leadership Team and assures that respite programs meet all strategic goals and objectives
  • Is responsible for implementing organizational systems that provide the necessary information for scheduling, billing and reporting for respite activities.
  • Is responsible for management, supervision, scheduling, training and recognition of support staff and volunteers in cooperation with the Program Directors for Friendship Club and Bridges to Work.
  • Assures that the overnight respite and Travel Club  experiences meet individual and family expectations
  • Offers creative and enriching vocational and individual support activities that provide a variety of opportunities for program participants aimed at helping participants achieve their goals
  • Helps to manage revenue and expenses to assure that respite programs meet or exceed budget expectations.
  • Develops and implements training and orientation specific to respite services specific to the needs of program participants.
  • Provides program opportunities that assess interests and skills so that respite opportunities are enriching and enjoyable.

 

Essential Skills & Experience:  Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years experience in progressive leadership role with comparable population.  Demonstrated ability to serve and care for people with disabilities.  In addition, has the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of the guidelines, services and  systems involved in caring for people with developmental disabilities including DDS licensing and ISP development
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferably in supervisory position in a 24 hour facility.
  • Open attitude and ability to manage crisis situations
  • Flexibility with weekly work schedule
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Certification or ability to be certified in first aid, cpr and medication administration ( if required) within 3 months of employment
  • Valid MA driver’s license, with positive driving record and ability to travel to meetings as needed with own vehicle
  • Ability to provide on-call and respond as needed to crises as necessary
  • Computer skills including word, excel and email competency

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs and move about without restriction
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Able to drive for up to 3 hours
